The Curriculum

Mathematics is a creative and highly interconnected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

Our Vision

At Holy Family mathematics is a subject which has a unique level of importance within our curriculum. It provides learners with the ability to develop, reason and apply skills in a real-life context. We continuously seek to develop the curriculum and do this by reflecting on our own practise and that of others. Different cultures have contributed to the development of mathematics; today the subject transcends cultural boundaries and its importance is universally acknowledged. Children are encouraged to challenge themselves and develop sophisticated mathematical links within the core areas of the subject. A sense of awe and wonder within mathematics is promoted as children attempt to solve problems for the first time; this will result in them having the means of applying these skills throughout their lives.

Multiplication Tables Check

In June, children in Year 4 will take part in a multiplication tables check to assess their times tables recall ability up to the 12 times table.  For further information, please see the information guide and frequently asked questions on our Year 4 classpage.
